Safety Ring

A safety ring is a cheap and durable item of swimming equipment that is ideal for the non-swimmer. It is used mainly by children as a way of enhancing their confidence the water.

The aid is worn around the body of the child and like armbands, it can restrict arm movements. It does however allow full movement and freedom of the legs.

They can be used in addition to arm bands, and in some cases with very small children the combination of armbands and rubber ring is essential to prevent slipping through the ring.

As the child gains confidence, the ring should be discarded before the armbands, not vice-versa.

Advantages:

Allow the child’s’ face to be kept clear of the water.

Support the child at a higher level in the water.

Disadvantages:

Can be insecure and some children can slip through.

Can hinder arm action.

Promotes a vertical body position.
