Floats come in different sizes depending on the needs of the swimmer and the size can often affect the level of buoyancy.

Can be used instead of other types of aid, therefore encouraging progression.
Can help gain leg or arm strength when used individually.
Disadvantages:
Requires a certain degree of strength in the leg kick.
One arm cannot be used.
