Another popular item of swimming equipment is the buoyancy suit. Suitable mainly for children, they promote floatation and enhance confidence and learning in the water.
They are not as effective for complete non-swimmers as they do not keep the face out of the water in the same way that armbands do.
Advantages:
Can give a high level of support.
Allows unrestricted movement of the arms.
Can promote a horizontal position for the confident non-swimmer.
Allow the face to be kept clear of the water.
Disadvantages:
Pupils may find it difficult to regain the standing position.
Pupil may be tipped forward too far.
